Our Story

A Family-Run Camp in Wadi Rum

A Family-Run Camp in Wadi Rum

Rum Under The Stars is a small, family-run camp inside the Wadi Rum Protected Area. Ahmad founded the camp in 2014 after growing up among Wadi Rum’s mountains, valleys and Bedouin traditions. Today, our family and local guides welcome travellers who want to experience the desert with warmth, practical comfort and personal attention.

What We Offer

Guests can stay in our Camp House photos with private bathrooms or choose a prepared tent-night package beneath the desert sky, alongside guided Jeep tours, guided trekking, sunrise experiences, sunset experiences, night tours, camel rides and tour packages. Traditional Bedouin meals, tea and time around the campfire are an important part of every stay.

Why Stay With Us?

Small Camp, Personal Hospitality

With only nine Camp Houses, we can give each booking more personal attention. We help guests choose an itinerary that suits their arrival time, group, interests and number of nights rather than treating every visit as the same package.

Personalised Planning

Tell us your dates, group size, arrival time and the experiences you are considering. We can suggest a practical combination of accommodation and tours for the time you have in Wadi Rum.

Dark Skies and Desert Quiet

After dinner, we turn off the main camp lights so guests can enjoy a darker sky, desert quiet and clearer views of the stars.

Freshly Prepared Bedouin Meals

We prepare traditional Bedouin meals for our guests, with meat and vegetarian options. Please tell us about dietary requirements before arrival so we can plan appropriately.

Caring for Wadi Rum’s Dogs

We try to avoid wasting food and use suitable leftovers to help feed local stray dogs. Star, also called Najma, came to the camp after we rescued her and is now a friendly companion for many guests. You can see more of daily camp life on our social media.

Responsible Use of Local Resources

Solar panels provide electricity and help heat water at the camp. We also use local food and resources where practical, supporting the community while reducing unnecessary impact on the desert.

Our Camp Houses combine Bedouin-style interiors with private bathrooms, panoramic windows and terraces overlooking the desert. They are designed for a quiet, comfortable night in Wadi Rum.

Stay in a Camp House, sleep beneath the stars or combine your visit with a guided desert tour. Contact us with your dates and interests, and we will help you choose a suitable way to experience Wadi Rum.

Ahmad’s Story

Ahmad was born and raised in Wadi Rum as a member of the Zawaideh tribe. He spent his childhood exploring the desert and learning from his family’s knowledge of its mountains, valleys, local history and Bedouin life.

As a teenager, Ahmad attended school in Wadi Rum Village and spent his free time working in tourism. He continued learning from his family while gaining experience with travellers. In August 2014, he founded Rum Under The Stars to share Wadi Rum and Bedouin hospitality with visitors from around the world.

Lilianna’s Story

Before coming to Wadi Rum, Lilianna spent many years working in a large family business. Her experience with people, organisation and international travellers later became part of how she supports the camp and its guests.

Lilianna later joined Ahmad in developing Rum Under The Stars and caring for its guests. She helps combine Bedouin hospitality with clear communication before and during each stay.

Our Family and Local Guides

Ahmad’s father, Dhaif Allah, and Ahmad’s brothers are part of the wider team. Their experience as local guides helps guests understand the places they visit rather than simply driving between sightseeing stops.

Star (Najma), Our Camp Dog

Star, whose Arabic name is Najma (نجمة), came to the camp after being rescued. She is friendly with guests and has become a much-loved part of daily life at Rum Under The Stars.
